Canada Innovation Competition – Finalists and Winner

Finalists

Cadillac Coatings Inc.
Cadillac Coatings Inc. has developed a patented process for powder coating non-metallic (non-conductive) materials, providing high volume, powder coating finishing which is similar to steel powder coating except the finish is for a variety of non-conductive substrate materials such as:

• MDF – Medium Density Fibreboard
• Fiber Cement – James Hardie Siding/Paneling
• Magnesium Oxide Paneling
• Other non-metallic and non-conductive materials

This revolutionary, patented technology is a new green, environmentally efficient process that is less expensive, more consistent, accurate providing high quality finishes that will last. It is a more dependable, durable and upscale alternative to traditional overlays and liquid applications.

Recovery Greywater Recycling System by CanPlas Industries Ltd.

Greywater recycling system for use in residential homes.  The product is a packaged water treatment and storage system which captures greywater generated by showers and baths, applies treatment and then re-supplies the water to flush toilets in the home.  The system uses an innovative self-cleaning filter that minimizes maintenance, reducing home water use by up to 30%.

Eco-Shift Power Corporation

Designed and developed in Cambridge, ON – unique High-efficiency Sharp LED lighting with comprehensive integrated energy reduction Radium management capabilities. Immensely varied worldwide applications wherever lights are used intensely: factories, warehouses, airports, streets, hospitals and offices. High and low bay fixtures come fully integrated with management capabilities via Eco-Shift’s Radium software suite. Control capabilities include automated dimming via motion sensors, photo sensors, scheduling, peak Demand Response management, Smart Grid readiness, self-diagnostics and energy use data collection.

Simple Solar Heating Ltd

The Freedom Won TM Solar Heater is a patented solar heating system that delivers substantially higher solar fraction than existing systems. It uses a solar photovoltaic module to energize the circulating pump rendering the system completely self-powered. It is compatible with existing solar thermal collectors and domestic water stores and it can easily be integrated with hydronic heating systems. Completed projects typically reduce domestic water energy use by 80

Therma-Ray

Therma-Ray’s Earth Thermal Storage System is a radiant slab heating system installed in soil or sand under (not in) a concrete slab building foundation. It is takes advantage of off-peak electrical rates by storing the heat under the building while providing comfort associated with radiant heating systems.

Trailloop

BIM-Integrated Energy Modeling for Early-Stage and Iterative Analysis, an online course to promote sustainable design. Students create a parametric BIM model in Autodesk Revit and exchange information with IES Virtual Environment for an early-stage integrative design. They gain practical experience in solving complex design integration problems. The course contains 21 course modules, each containing step-by-step video tutorials guiding students through the sample building with downloadable exercises
